The 2nd international interdisciplinary translation studies conference “Bridging Languages and Cultures” took place on September 12th and 13th at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, with 44 participants from 7 countries.
The conference included two plenary sessions. On September 12th, professors Andrejs Veisbergs and Ina Druviete from the University of Latvia were the plenary speakers while on September 13th, the session featured international professors: Aline Remael from the University of Antwerp (Belgium), Piotr Sulikowski from the University of Szczecin (Poland), Robert W. Vaagen from Oslo Metropolitan University (Norway).
The conference was divided into four thematic discussion blocks:
- Aspects of linguistics;
- Translation studies;
- Problems of translatology in translating literary texts;
- Intercultural aspects in translation research.
The conference brought together participants from six higher education institutions in Latvia (University of Latvia, Daugavpils University, Liepaja University, and Ventspils University of Applied Sciences), as well as scientists and researchers from Poland, Austria, Norway, Libya, the United Arab Emirates, and Belgium. The conference also featured the participation of organizations related to translation, including SDI Media Latvia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Parliament, and the translation company Translate PRO.
Organizing international scientific conferences has become a valuable and important tradition for Ventspils University of Applied Sciences. During the conference, participants from various countries gathered at VUAS, establishing new connections, strengthening existing collaborations, and providing an opportunity for the university researchers and lecturers to present their work internationally, thus gaining valuable international experience.
