As you first set your foot in Latvia your life will never be the same. Many things will be different for you when you first arrive in Latvia and even in Ventspils. We cannot possible spare you from a culture shock, but we can most certainly try to lessen its intensity.

  • Getting from Riga International Airport to Ventspils

    Once you land at Riga airport or arrive at Riga International bus station, you are just one bus/car ride away from Ventspils!

  • First steps after arriving in the country

    Within the first week after your arrival you will need to finalize immigration matters by getting the actual resident permit card (RP) or if you entered with a visa – apply for one.  

    • First of all, make sure you have a valid travel document (passport) on you.
    • Go to the immigration office (Ventspils, Užavas street 8) to have your photo taken for the residence permit (RP) card. An appointment must be made upon prior registration by calling +371 67209455, +371 67209454 or via email ventspils@pmlp.gov.lv

    Cost of the RP card is EUR 15.00 (ready in 2 weeks) or EUR 30.00 for having it made in two working days.

    • Declare your place of residence (done at the immigration office).

    Cost of declaration is EUR 4.27

    • You will have to get a chest X-ray certificate (obtained at Ventspils hospital Inženieru street 60). Results are ready in two days and can be collected after 16:00. It costs around EUR 10.
    •  You will need to buy medical insurance (valid in all Schengen countries, covering one-year period, the minimum amount of insurance (EUR 42 6000).

    Ventspils University offers such IT services as printing and computer classrooms. In this guide you can find out about all the services provided for students.

  • What is Moodle and how to use it?

    Moodle is an e-learning platform. There you can access course materials, upload assignments, receive feedback and see grades.


    Moodle (and other IT services) can be accessed with Venta username and password (they will be sent to you personal e-mails). Venta e-mail should look like this – s20username@venta.lv


    In case you forget your password go to ITML department in room C102 and bring your passport or ID card and a personal (Latvian) ID number. Should you be outside Latvia and can't go to ITML department, please email itml@venta.lv about a new password. They will most likely ask you to ID yourself with a photo with a legible ID in hands and personal (Latvian) ID number.

  • What is LAIS and how to use it?

    LAIS is a platform where you can see your study plan and grades.


    Your LAIS login information will be sent to you by e-mail. Should you have problems accessing LAIS or you forget your password, please contact VUAS Study Department in room C210 or via email at studijas@venta.lv. 


    Within the first three weeks of the semester full-time international students have to register for their courses on www.lais.lv. Detailed information on how to sign up for courses is available in the VUAS LAIS user manual and Student guide. 


    With LAIS username you can also access Eduroam wireless network. To connect to the internet you must log in the system through your LAIS username, adding "@vea.lv" at the end of it and using your password.


    So if the LAIS username is "jo16123", then you have to log in with the username "jo16123@vea.lv" and use the respective password.
