About VUAS

Education for tomorrow!

The VUAS Constitution of 13 December 2007 was approved by the Saeima (parliament) in the Law on the Constitution of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (“LV”, 208 (3784), 29 December 2007; Ziņotājs, 3, 14 February 2008); VUAS was accredited as of 10 December 1999. (Accreditation form No. 014)


On 20 May 2013, VUAS received the status of scientific institution (registered in the Registry of Scientific Institutions), confirming that it has fulfilled the national criteria for a scientific institution: at least half of all academic personnel are holders of a Doctor of Science degree, the higher education institution publishes scientific articles and has scientific infrastructure at its disposal, and so on.


The VUAS has three faculties: the Faculty of Economics and Management, the faculty of Translation Studies, and the Faculty of Information Technology. Altogether, 14 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral study programmes are available at the University of Applied Sciences. Approximately 900 students are currently enrolled.

The mission of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences is to provide high-quality, up-to-date education corresponding to the current educational trends both in Europe and the world and to organise and develop a flexible educational system that implements principles of lifelong learning. Ventspils University of Applied Sciences carries out research activities that are vital for society, ensuring the integration of science in the study process and the use of knowledge to benefit the national economy.

Objectives of our Activity

To develop and maintain up-to-date, high-quality higher education and research in the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences' fields of academic activity – management, applied linguistics, computer science, information technologies, engineering, and radio astronomy – and to ensure the close functional interaction of these fields.

Cooperating with the local government and companies of Ventspils

Ventspils University of Applied Sciences provides institutions and companies of the Kurzeme Region and the Ventspils City Council with qualified employees and offers lifelong learning opportunities for various groups of people.


The Ventspils local government finances the attraction of highly qualified academic personnel and high-class industry specialists, scholarships for doctoral students and publishing of scientific and teaching materials, and co-finances various projects, sports and cultural events for students.

Entrepreneurs participate in the development, improvement and implementation of study programmes and courses as well as student apprenticeships in Ventspils, in Latvian and foreign companies and in commercial companies.
