Doctoral School
The aim of the Doctoral School is to provide an academic, diverse, and inclusive environment for fostering scientific excellence, where doctoral students have the opportunity to develop research thinking, promote creativity, and intellectual autonomy.
The Doctoral School at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences was established in 2022.
The new doctoral model at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences is being integrated gradually, with the first doctoral students enrolled in the new doctoral model in September 2024. The new doctoral model envisions closer student involvement in research, considering doctoral students as future young scientists, research partners, and professionals who make a significant contribution to the creation of new knowledge. During their doctoral studies, doctoral students hold a fixed-term (study) position as research staff and may work on tasks related to their research topic.
By collaborating with scientific institutions, companies and experts from other scientific institutions, doctoral students will be able to integrate the latest experience and innovations in the field in the development of their doctoral theses.
In the new doctoral studentship model, a doctoral council will be established individually for each doctoral thesis. The doctoral council is approved in accordance with the procedure established by the university. The doctoral council is convened for the doctoral thesis defense procedure, and it is organized by the doctoral school of the relevant university.
