Ventspils University of Applied Sciences has every reason to be proud of one of the best student dormitories in Latvia. It is located in the same building as the university, so if there is a storm raging outside, you can simply take the glass passage connecting the dormitory with the university premises. The dormitory is located on two blocks of the university building – on the sixth and eighth floors in spacious, bright, and comfortable premises, and students live in each room. The “ventspils-guest” Wi-Fi that is accessible in the dormitory is maintained by the Ventspils Digital Centre.

Just like in any hotel, each room has a separate shower, so you don’t have to worry about waiting in line to shower and freezing in the cold hallways. There are several kitchenettes on each floor which the students use to cook but, if laziness prevails, the café Panorama on the sixth floor of the dormitory offers great food and a fantastic view of the sea.

Student service hotel rent (1 September – 30 June):

Bed in a single room - 96,50 euros / month (limited availability);
Bed in a double room - 65 euros / month;
Bed in a triple room - 50,50 euros / month (limited availability).

In July and August dormitory becomes a hostel and therefore the rent becomes 12% higher because of the value-added tax. Moreover, single rooms during those months are not available.

IMPORTANT FOR NEW STUDENTS

To apply for the VUAS dormitory, please specify that you will need a bed in the dormitory in your application form. A bed in a double room for international students is booked automatically. Please inform International Office in case it is not necessary or you have a different room preference or already know with whom you would like to share your room.

SECURITY DEPOSIT AND RENT PAYMENT

The dormitory rent and security deposit (6 month rent) for first year full-time international students and all incoming Erasmus/exchange students must be paid upon arrival, otherwise the rent must be paid until the 20th date of the next month.

INVENTORY

The dormitories consist of blocks. Each block has:

two rooms;
one shower;
one toilet.

Each room is equipped with furniture:

a closet;
a bookcase;
chairs;
a table;
a bed.

The “ventspils-guest” Wi-Fi is accessible in all rooms (maintained by the Ventspils Digital Centre) free of charge.

There are several kitchens for cooking on each floor equipped with a stove, and a café Panorama which is located on the sixth floor of the B building dormitory.

WHAT SHOULD A FRESHMAN KEEP IN MIND ABOUT LIFE IN A DORMITORY?

There are a number of kitchens for cooking on each floor. Each kitchen is equipped with a stove. Students are responsible to clean after themselves;
Food and cooking items are not to be kept in the kitchens;
Rooms and common areas in the block need to be kept clean by students themselves;
Dormitory blocks are not equipped with refrigerators. Students must take care of the refrigerator themselves. VUAS offers refrigerator rent for 6.20 EUR per month;
Students must provide all utensils necessary for cooking such as a skillet, saucepan, plates, bowls, forks, knives, spoons, cups, etc (International students may be provided with basic utensils by the International Office);
Students must provide bed linens (blanket, pillow, sheets, covers) and towels;
Dormitory doors are open 24/7;
Students should also think about daily necessities such as spices, toilet paper, desired decorations (to make the room look and feel cosier), hygiene accessories, medications etc;
It’s common courtesy to your neighbours to keep the level of noise down after 11pm and before 7am (or even later).

LAUNDRY ROOM

is located in the basement of the VUAS; it is equipped with both a washing machine and a tumble dryer (EUR 2,25 for one usage time). Laundry tokens are sold at the dorms administration desk .
