Applications for International Degree Seeking Students

The general application procedure for all English-taught study programes:

  • Application deadline for International Degree Seeking Students

    Applications for studies in English-taught study programmes are accepted  for studies in the Autumn (September) semester only. 


    The next intake will open in February 1, 2024. 


    Provisonal application deadlines:

    • July 30 for the citizens of the European Union (EU), member states of the European Economic Area (EEU) and Swiss Confederation. Countries whose citizens may enter Latvia without a visa
    • June 30 Citizens of countries not listed in the Annex of the Regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 554. 
    • June 1 for applicants from countries listed in the Annex of the Regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 554 and have an embassy of Latvia in the country.  
    • May 1 for applicants from countries listed in the Annex of the Regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 554 and do not have an embassy of Latvia in the country.

  • The general application procedure for all English-taught study programmes:

    The candidate must complete the online application form http://apply.venta.lv/ and attach the following documents*:


    • Documents of Secondary or Higher education.  (originals or certified true copies). The Candidate may submit original documents in English, German, French or Russian. All other languages must be translated into English. Translations need to be notary attested and certified.
    • Curriculum Vitae (resume)**
    • Motivation letter
    •  A copy of the applicant’s passport (including a note “Submitted for use by Ventspils University of Applied Sciences”, date and time)
    • One photo 3 cm x 4 cm (optional)
    •  The candidate shall attach to the application a document issued during the last five years by a competent international testing authority certifying that English language proficiency of the candidate is at least B2 level – IELTS (at least 5.5), TOEFL (at least pBT 543 or iBT 72), LanguageCert ESOL B2 Communicator (at least 25), DuoLingo 95, and others.

    The above mentioned English proficiency document shall not be attached if the candidate:

    • Has acquired secondary or higher education in English and can prove it by submitting an official letter from the school or the university. 
    • Can submit the secondary education certificate on completed secondary education in the European Union and the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation. According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages detection system, the certificate should contain an assessment of English language proficiency, which is comparable to at least level B2.

    * If any of the submitted documents issued contain the name and/or surname other than the one in the passport, the applicant shall present a notarized document in English or Latvian attesting to the change of the applicant’s name and/or surname.


    ** Please do not include sensitive information such as:

    • trade-union membership;
    • health-related data;
    • data concerning a person’s sex life or sexual orientation;
    • personal data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs

    Before you apply, make sure you meet our minimum admission criteria:

    • The average grade should be at least 60%.
    • The grade in core subjects (Mathematics and English) should be above minimum passing grade.

  • I have submitted all the required documents – what happens next?

    Unless you have already made the payment, an application fee invoice for 150 EUR (or 76 EUR*) will be sent to you. The deadline for paying it is usually two weeks from the date of issue.


    How to pay the application fee:

    • You can make the payment via bank transfer. Payment details: Receiver: Ventspils Augstskola Account no: LV03HABA0551002144730, Bank: Swedbank, Swedbank SWIFT code: HABALV22, Code: 21379, Purpose: Application fee payment

    After receiving the payment, we will proceed with the application process and let you know if we have all we need from you and then send your documents for evaluation. You can read here about the academic recognition of foreign qualifications. The recognition process takes about a month and a half.


    * Applicants who are citizens of the EU/EEA countries or Switzerland. Applicants who are not citizens of the EU/EEA countries or Switzerland, but who have acquired their secondary/higher education in the countries of the European Union.

  • The long awaited decision about your education documents has been received. Next steps...

    • A Skype interview and/or entry tests for the desired programme;
    • A new invoice that includes first year tuition fee and security deposit 500** EUR will be sent to you. 
    • Drafting of your study contract;
    • Applying for D category visa to enter Latvia;
    • Applying for a temporary Residence permit.

    **  Applicants who are from the EU/EEA countries or Switzerland, or who have acquired their previous education in the countries of the European Union are exempted from paying the security deposit.
