About the Faculty

The Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) implements five study programmes - academic bachelor study programme "Business Administration" in English as a full-time study programme with a duration of 3 years and in Latvian as a part-time study programme with a duration of 4 years, professional bachelor study programme "Business Management", professional bachelor study programme "Start-Up Management" and professional master study programme "Business Administration".

Ventspils University of Applied Sciences is rapidly making its name in the international higher education market, offering study opportunities to students from abroad. FEM is providing such an opportunity as well, as studies in the bachelor’s programme Management Studies are conducted in English.

The FEM study programmes have been refined to meet the requirements of the labour market both in Latvia and elsewhere in Europe. In addition to lectures delivered by well-known academics from Latvia, FEM students have the opportunity to regularly attend lectures by qualified foreign lecturers from Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Finland, Belarus and other countries. To prepare students for practical business and business management, a significant part of the study process at the Faculty of Economics and Management takes place outside of the classroom in practical classes, group assignments, and business games. Practical business experience is available to students through external infrastructure: Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP), the VHTP Business Incubator, the Technology Transfer Centre of Kurzeme, Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre, etc.

In their studies alongside Erasmus exchange students, students of the Faculty of Economics and Management consolidate their English skills and gain international experience right in Ventspils. An increasing number of students choose to spend a semester at one of the many partner universities of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences.

Career opportunities

Graduates of FEM programmes work in national and local government institutions and at companies such as Ventspils City Council, Ventspils Freeport Authority, the Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Latvia, the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Latvia, the State Land Service, VAS Latvijas Valsts Meži, Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, SIA Arbo, Ventspils Freeport Authority, PSIA Ventspils siltums, Bucher Schörling Baltic, Ventspils High Technology Park, SIA Dendrolight Latvia, AS Baltijas Ekspresis, SIA VK Ekspedīcija, Ventspils nafta termināls, AS Ventbunkers, and Ventspils Electronics Factory, as well as in private companies and banks including AS Swedbank, AS Privat Bank, and AS DnB banka. Students have also established commercial companies of their own.
