This course serves as an introduction to the study of the Spanish language. Lessons are constructed around thematic units which contain texts, exercises, as well as descriptions of relevant grammatical aspects. The course puts an accent on the understanding of the language’s mechanisms, so as to provide the student with a sense of ease in any given real-life situation.
1. The Spanish Alphabet. Phonetic principles of Spanish. Basic vocabulary: Everyday objects
2. Basic greetings. Introducing oneself. Expressing likes and dislikes: the verb “GUSTAR”
3. Defined and undefined articles. Grammatical gender and number. Basic vocabulary: Everyday objects
4. The verb „TENER”. Sentence structure in Spanish. Basic vocabulary: Family. Basic vocabulary: Clothes and colours
5. The verb „SER”. Basic vocabulary: professions, nationalities
6. The verbs „SER” and „ESTAR” (I). Basic vocabulary: personal characteristics.
7. Impersonal form „HAY”. Numbers (1 to 10). Basic vocabulary: Object location.
8. The uses of SER, ESTAR, HAY and TENER. Basic vocabulary: Days of the week and months
9. The Spanish verbal system. Regular verbs. The present tense
10. Possessive pronouns. Vocabulary: Animals
11. Spanish prepositions. Basic vocabulary: (10‒1,000). Basic vocabulary: Prices and dates
12. The verb „IR”. The verb „VENIR”. Basic vocabulary: Telling time
13. The verbal construction „TENER QUE + INFINITIVE”
14. The ‘near future’ construction „IR A + INFINITIVE”. Basic vocabulary: Places in the city
15. The verb „QUERER”
