Business Management Students Participate in Winter School in Belgium
From February 3 to 7, a Winter School was held at the Antwerp Winter University in Belgium, bringing together 58 students from over 10 countries. Among them, there were 3 students from Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, who immersed themselves in inspiring lectures and gained an introduction to maritime transport and logistics solutions.
Throughout the educational event, students explored topics such as food law and European solidarity by working on practical case studies, engaging in discussions with guest lecturers from around the world, and visiting the Port of Antwerp and policymakers in Brussels. Although the days were packed with activities, students found the energy and enthusiasm to fully participate in all events and connect with their peers, fostering international collaboration.
Amanda Gintere, a student in the professional bachelor’s study programme “Business Management”, shared her experience at the Antwerp Winter University:
“I chose the theme of sustainable transport and logistics. Over the five days, we attended lectures on logistics-related topics, analyzing both failures and success stories. I appreciated the opportunity to gain experience working both independently and in teams. We actively took part in discussions and developed projects, proposing ideas for improving various systems and solving problems. Collaborating with international lecturers and students, as well as learning about innovations, will stay with me for a long time. An interesting fact is that the organizer of this Winter University is a Latvian who used to study at VUAS and has been living in Belgium for 15 years.”
Irina Sačko, also a student in the “Business Management” professional bachelor’s programme, added:
“The trip and studies in Antwerp were very educational. Although the topics were challenging, the professors’ approach—giving us the chance to study independently and share our knowledge in group work—allowed for real growth. The city itself also amazed me with its diversity and numerous historical buildings. If I get the chance to return to Antwerp to study or just relax, I’ll definitely take it!”
