Fundamentals of the Latvian Language II

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is an introductory A1-level course for beginners with no or minimal Latvian knowledge. It develops basic spoken and written communication skills, focusing on pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar for everyday situations. By the end of the course, students can communicate simply and clearly about daily life, express needs and intentions, and understand basic Latvian in practical contexts.

CONTENT

1. Latvian pronunciation, alphabet, and basic grammar (verbs, nouns, pronouns, numbers)
2. Everyday vocabulary: family, home, city, hobbies, food, and routines
3. Simple communication: greetings, introductions, asking/giving information, expressing needs
4. Practical skills: telling time and dates, reading/writing basic sentences, understanding daily-life texts
