COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to introduce students to the process of writing an academic research paper. To this end, the course includes activities that develop the student’s ability to find information in scientific databases, to use different types of information in a critical and an appropriate manner, and to evaluate this information and the sources according to relevant scientific criteria. From a practical viewpoint, the aim is to develop the student’s ability to conduct a scientific study and elaborate a written report of it in a systematic manner.

1. Defining ‘scientific research’. Organizing the research
2. Research questions: types and characteristics
3. Research design: data collection and analysis. Research parameters
4. Qualitative, descriptive and experimental research. Quantitative and qualitative research
5. Literature review: Quoting, paraphrasing and summarizing
6. Literature review: Primary and secondary sources. CRAAP test
7. Structure of a research paper
8. Draft review, formatting and presentation
