COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course is designed to enable students to speak confidently in public upon successful completion. The course is based on the preparation of a 10-minute speech on a chosen topic, which is developed during the semester. In addition, students are provided with theoretical information (anatomy of speech, speech/voice techniques, pace, psychological aspects, audience involvement, nuances of verbal and non-verbal communication, etc.).

CONTENT

1. Introduction: the concept of public speaking
2. Anatomy of speech. Vocal apparatus. The structure of speech: an introduction
3. Speech/vocal techniques. Speech structure: a discussion. Speech delivery: introduction
4. Speech tempo. Speech structure: conclusion. Speech delivery: introduction and elaboration
5. Psychological aspects of public speaking. Speech structure: review of all parts
6. Verbal and non-verbal aspects of speech. Analysis of notable speeches and speakers. Audience involvement. Assessing the setting and audience. Speech delivery: full course of study for audience members
7. Brief overview of course content. Key takeaways from the end of the course. Final speech delivery: complete to a wider (previously unknown) audience
