May 26, 2021

Lāsma is the chairperson of the VUAS Student Council who grew up on historic stories, but now embarks on her path to shape the future as an ambassador. Read on to find out what are her TOP 5 things about studying in Ventspils University of Applied Sciences.

Tell us a little about yourself!

Hello, my name is Lāsma, and I have been studying in VUAS for 2 years already in the bachelor program – Languages and Intercultural Communication. Currently, I am the chairperson of the VUAS Student Council.

What were you like as a child?

I was a curious child – my grandmother was a history teacher. Instead of fairy tales, she told me about ancient Egypt, Greek mythology and other history-related topics, which I found fascinating. I did not like to play with toys, but I enjoyed reading a lot, and I spent a lot of time outdoors with my brother and my friends.

What motivated you to join the student council and become its leader?

My lecturer Vita Balama encouraged me to join the council. However, I was not expecting to become the chairperson of the Student Council. Still, my colleagues nominated me for this position. Their belief in me motivated me to try and accept this position.

What do you value the most in people?

I genuinely respect brave people who are not afraid to take risks and step out of their comfort zone. Also, I highly value people that can be trusted and that are open-minded.

Name the five most valuable benefits of studying at VUAS?

Firstly, the individual approach to each student makes it possible to contact the lecturers and the administration. They are always happy to help and support the students – secondly, the mutual respect between students and lecturers. Third, VUAS is located in a fantastic place right next to the Baltic sea. I usually go to enjoy sunsets or when it gets warmer also to swim or sunbathe. The Fourth benefit I would say is that the dorms and the university are in the same building complex, which makes it very comfortable to go from classes to your room. And lastly, I really enjoy the fact that the Student Council provides sports activities such as swimming, going to the gym and ice skating for students for free.

What kind of job would you like to have after graduation?

My long time dream has been to work in an embassy as an ambassador, and I hope that maybe one day I will have the chance to fulfil this dream.

What would you recommend to prospective students?

I would advise you not to be afraid, not be scared, and join VUAS because you will learn a lot and your study life will be colourful events and adventures.
