Students Explore AI and Automation Solutions in Ventspils Companies
As part of the BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) and summer school “Digital Innovation Through AI,” students from Latvia, Ukraine, Spain, Poland and other countries gathered at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences for a week to expand their knowledge of the potential of artificial intelligence in business and innovation.
During the programme, students worked in international teams to develop their own business ideas, analyse market needs, create solution concepts and refine their projects under the guidance of experienced mentors. Participants learned various methods and tools for using artificial intelligence in the development of products and services, while also gaining practical experience in presenting ideas and working as a team.
An important part of the programme was a study visit during which students visited Ventspils-based companies Azeron and Diana Sveces. The aim of the visits was to gain an insight into the companies’ operations, understand their production processes and learn how they use or plan to use automation and artificial intelligence solutions in their daily operations. Students met with company representatives and asked questions about their experience implementing new technologies.
During the visit to Azeron, participants learned about the company’s production process and had the opportunity to try out its gaming controllers. Diana Sveces, meanwhile, provided an insight into the organisation of candle production and its day-to-day operational processes.
At the end of the programme, the teams presented their business ideas to a jury during a final pitch session. The five best teams were given the opportunity to continue developing their ideas and present them to a wider audience in Riga, showcasing the knowledge, creativity and ability they had gained during the week to harness the potential of artificial intelligence in developing new solutions.
