The book “Revision of Translations” in Latvian has been published
Aija Sīle, a lecturer at the Faculty of Translation Studies (FoTS) of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VUAS), and Jānis Veckrācis, an assistant professor at FTS, have published the book “Revision of Translations” in Latvian. The book is a study resource designed for translators and editors, lecturers and students of language and translation studies, as well as for anyone who works with texts and cares about the quality of expression.
As the authors themselves admit, the revision of business and literary translations into Latvian has been rarely considered, which is why the idea for this book was born. The book aims to identify and highlight some of the most important aspects and considerations of editing, as well as to offer practical recommendations for improving translations on the basis of a brief presentation of theoretical ideas and an analysis of translation units of business and literary texts.
The book has two parts. From a theoretical and practical standpoint, the first section to some extent examines the key contextual factors that significantly impact and determine how the translation editor’s tasks, competence, and working environment are understood. The second part summarizes information about translation editing, outlining the refinement of both business and literary translations. The book also presents the authors’ reflections on the first Latvian translation of Jerome David Selinger’s “The Catcher in the Rye”, published in 1969, and the revised version published in 2001.
