Sustainable Development and Integration of the Latvian Energy System in Europe (FutureProof)

The Aim of the Project:  Research of electricity system infrastructure, market, risks and future development scenarios with an intention to promoting sustainability, competitiveness, compliance with the public interest and integration of Latvia’s electricity sector in Europe.


Activities:

  • A detailed analysis of the plans and regulatory framework for the development of energy systems in the Baltic Sea countries, as well as energy prices, production capacity, volume and consumption forecast up to 2050.
  •  Possible scenarios and recommendations for the future development of Latvia’s energy system. 
  •  Electricity market models adapted to Latvian conditions.
  •  By using these models, a market imitation will be performed.
  •  An assessment of the security of the energy system, cyber security and other risks will be carried out, as well as an assessment of energy poverty in Latvia.
     

Project Result:

 

  •  A knowledge base on the infrastructure, market and risks of the Latvian electricity system will be developed, the scenarios for future development will be explored and energy poverty will be analysed.
  •  The main results of the project will be reflected in the recommendations to policy makers.
