PROJECT

Creating the Next Generation of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences Sensors Programmable LOFAR Radio Telescope (LOFAR)

Duration: 1/1.2017–31/12/2019

Total Costs of the Project:
EUR 3,960,000, government funding

The Aim of the Project:
The funds allocated are intended for the development of the new low-frequency radio astronomy array (LOFAR) in the Irbene radio complex.

Activities:

  1. Complete and commission the construction of the LOFAR Latvia antenna field.
  2. Install LOFAR–LATVIA equipment and enter a single International Lofar telescope (ILT) network.
  3.  Complete the formation of the DART laboratory.
  4.  Finish the upgrading of high-performance computing (HPC) server.

Project Result:

  1.  A new generation radio telescope LOFAR (low-frequency radio astronomy array) has been developed.
  2.  The LOFAR station has been integrated into the International LOFAR Telescope (ILT) network.
