Project Name: Smart METERING
Project No.: LLIV-312
Unaccounted loss of water and heat in distribution networks results from undetected accidents, hidden leaks, irrational use and theft. Although extensive research has not been carried out in this field, most Latvian and Lithuanian water management facilities estimate loss of 20%, but in many cases these losses even exceed 50%. According to a study carried out by Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), thermal energy losses in heat supply facilities reach 12–15%.
Unaccounted loss of water in Ventspils Municipal Water Utility limited liability company SIA Ūdeka is 13%. By developing and adapting automated meter reading systems, leak and pipe burst detection methods, it will be possible to reduce the amount of unaccounted water and save money.
This project will provide an opportunity to carry out the necessary additional research to test and improve automated meter reading systems based on sensor networks, as well as adjust them to local infrastructure and clients. It will offer technical solutions for companies which due to lack of time, finances and competences are not able to develop such solutions on their own.
Specific Goals of the Project:
Main Activities of the Project: Develop water distribution test-network in Ventspils and thermal energy loss monitoring system in Kaunas.
