On November 8, 2019, Ventspils University of Applied Sciences and the Society Integration Foundation have signed an agreement on the Latvian government funded programme ‘Latvian Language Acquisition for Re-emigrants and their Family Members’ project (identification number 2019.LV/LVRM/02/03) named ‘Latvian Language Acquisition for Re-emigrants and their Family Members in the Ventspils Region’ for the period from 8 November, 2019 to 31 July, 2021.
The goal of the project is to provide support for learning Latvian language for re-emigrants, who have insufficient Latvian language skills to successfully integrate themselves into the society and fulfil their professional activity according to their qualification, or to commence their education or studies.
According to the invitation to the tender, a person (diaspora representative) who has returned or moved from the country of residence to permanently reside in Latvia after a long-term absence and either is a Latvian citizen, a non-citizen of Latvia, a person who has been granted repatriation status or a person entitled to obtain Latvian citizenship in the procedure of registration according to the Citizenship Law, as well as family members (child, parent or spouse) of the said person, if they return or move from the country of residence to permanent residence in Latvia together with the said person.
In total, four groups of instruction are planned within two years, incl. two combined groups of children and young people, at A1, A2 or B1 level on request.
The total budget of the project is EUR 7,020.00 and it is 100% financed by the Society Integration Foundation from the Latvian government funded programme ‘Latvian Language Acquisition for Re-emigrants and their Family Members’.
