264 new students begin studies in Ventspils University of Applied Sciences

Sep 03, 2020
In Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VUAS) 264 new students have begun studies in all levels of education – bachelor`s, master`s and doctoral study programmes. Despite this year`s challenges, which resulted in less marketing activities in Spring, student interest about studies in VUAS has not abated – on the contrary, the number of students has been rising for a third consecutive year.

Compared to the previous year, the number of students enrolled in VUAS increased by 5% but in some study programmes the number of students increased by 20% and more compared to 2019. For instance, in the Faculty of Economics and Management in the study programme “Start-up management” there are approximately a third more new specialists starting their studies. A pleasant surprise is the Faculty of Information Technologies study programme “Computer Science” in which 20 more students have been enrolled. Compared to 2019, 45% more new computer specialists are starting their studies this year.

“We are confident about our study programmes` quality which serves as the main driving force for young people to choose Ventspils University of Applied Sciences as their starting point for future professional careers. For the third consecutive year we have seen a steady increase in the number of students, and we are determined to continue this upward trend” says VUAS rector prof. Kārlis Krēsliņš.

The new study year was unveiled by students, lecturers and guests from the city council in the garden of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences. This year the site had been chosen deliberately - the garden of VUAS was opened on September 1, 2000. Exactly 20 years ago the rector of that time Jānis Vucāns congratulated students in the new study year and called for inspiration and sunshine to be caught in the newly created garden. This year too, the deputy of LR Parliament and the rector of that time addressed everyone who attended the event and wished success in building their own lives and future.
