A new rector has been elected in Ventspils University of Applied Sciences – professor Andris Vaivads

Ventspils University of Applied Sciences Constitutional Assembly has elected professor Andris Vaivads, who has worked at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. After several rounds of selection, Andris Vaivads was nominated for election by the University Council and today the majority of the Constitutional Assembly of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences voted in favour of his election as Rector.

Professor Andris Vaivads presented his vision on the development opportunities of the University, as well as provided comments and answers to the questions.

Kristaps Klauss, Chairman of the Council of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences commented on the election results: I would like to congratulate Mr Vaivads and the entire staff of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences. We have high hopes that Mr Vaivads will bring the best experience from Sweden and Germany to Ventspils University of Applied Sciences and help it to better integrate into the international academic and scientific community. On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank Mr Krēsliņš for the work he has done at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences and I truly believe that we will continue to work together." 

The Council of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences nominated Andris Vaivads for the rector's election, believing that his extensive experience in scientific and pedagogical activities, achievements in project development and implementation, international experience, as well as leadership skills will help the university to best implement its development strategy. Andris Vaivads has previously headed the Space and Plasma Division at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and has been a researcher and contributor to various projects internationally.

Once again - we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and our thoughts are with all those directly or indirectly impacted by this invasion.
