Covid-19 safety

Nov 07, 2023

Last week, the Latvian public media reported a moderate increase in the prevalence of Covid-19: https://www.lsm.lv/raksts/zinas/latvija/01.11.2023-pagajusaja-nedela-mereni-pieaugusi-covid-19-izplatiba.a530038/ (only in Latvian)

In order to limit the spread of the disease, we urge students and other staff of the VUAS to follow the safety measures announced by the government, including compulsory self-isolation in case of illness.

HOW TO IMPLEMENT?

  • Do not leave areas where isolation is being observed.
  • Do not meet other people, visit or receive guests.
  • Contact your family doctor regularly (if the situation becomes critical, call 113).
  • Only carry out work duties remotely. (Staff are requested to inform their supervisors of VUAS if they become ill.)
  • Participate in the educational process only remotely. (Please inform the Study Department and the Faculty Administrator of the case of illness.)
  • Do not use public transport.
  • Stay in a well-ventilated space with a window that opens.
  • Use a separate towel, eating utensils, drinking vessels, bed linen and other frequently used household items.

HOW LONG TO OBSERVE ISOLATION?

  • As long as there are acute symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection and for an additional 3 days.
  • If symptoms of acute upper respiratory tract infection persist for more than 7 days, the additional 3 days do not apply.
  • If there are no acute upper respiratory tract symptoms but the Covid-19 test is positive, isolation is 3 days (from the day after the test).

We recommend wearing face masks when going out in common areas.

Let's be understanding and responsible to each other, following the safety precautions and not endangering others.

Good health and success in your work!

Dear colleagues and friends, Last Thursday marked a dark moment in the history of Europe and the world as we became witness of a brutal and unprovoked act of war by Russia against a sovereign nation in the centre of Europe - Ukraine. We are deeply saddened by this. We at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences stand with the people of Ukraine at this difficult time and join the international community in condemning on the strongest possible terms the act of illegal aggression. We are prepared to offer every possible support within our means to staff, researchers and students at your institution. We are open look into the possibility to host your staff shorter or longer for periods of time. Once again - we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and our thoughts are with all those directly or indirectly impacted by this invasion. Yours sincerely, Dr. Karlis Kreslins Rector of the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences Foto: Shutterstock
