European Researchers' Night 2021 successfully held
On April 30 this year, European Researchers' Night 2021 took place online, in which representatives from Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VUAS) also participated with an exciting and extensive program. Everyone had the opportunity to visit the university premises on an educational tour, test their knowledge in the intricacies of Latvian, English, German, and Russian languages, observe electronics engineering experiments, and listen to a discussion about science commercialization, as well as participate in a remote exploration game and explore space research in Latvia.
Artūrs Viļums, the Dean of the VUAS Translation Studies Faculty, and lecturers had prepared fascinating tongue twisters in Latvian, English, German, and Russian. Rodrigo, a student of the "Electronics Engineering" study program, demonstrated an experiment in which he created a token. Anyone who has a soldering iron and solder at home can repeat this experiment.
VUAS lecturer Gvido Grīnbergs and VUAS lecturer, head of the "Accenture" Ventspils branch Guntis Čoders discussed the commercialization of science, giving the audience the opportunity to hear how to commercialize their ideas, whom to commercialize them for, and most importantly, why to do it.
Linda Gulbe, the leading researcher of Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center (VIRAC), prepared a remote sensing game where everyone could test their knowledge by recognizing well-known places in the world and Latvia from satellite images. Every visitor of the Researchers' Night could explore space research in Latvia by remotely visiting the VIRAC radio antenna complex in Irbene.
The European Researchers' Night is an event initiated by the European Commission, which has been held simultaneously in more than 30 countries and 300 cities on the last Friday of September for 14 years. In Latvia, the European Researchers' Night is organized this year by the University of Latvia (LU) in collaboration with leading Latvian universities and research institutes. The implementation of the European Researchers' Night events is financed by the ERDF project No. 1.1.1.5/20/A/002.
