COURSE DESCRIPTION

The study course examines topical language technologies, also by analysing ethical and security issues. The students test various tools and platforms that simplify the fulfilment of tasks related to language technologies.

CONTENT

1. Computational linguistics, language technologies, their types, availability, and use
2. Artificial intelligence, machine learning
3. Human language, natural language, artificial language
4. Knowledge (knowledge management, online resources, dictionaries, language corpora)
5. Information extraction, text extraction and analysis
6. Speech technologies (speech and language recognition, speech synthesis, virtual assistants)
7. Text technologies (spell-checking, text summarising, text analysis)
8. Multimedia and multimodal technologies
9. Multilingualism, digitalisation
10. Machine translation and computer-assisted translation
11. Role of “Tilde” in language technologies for the Latvian language
