FTS Researcher Silga Sviķe Participates in an International Conference in Croatia
Silga Sviķe, researcher at the Faculty of Translation Studies at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences presented her research (poster presentation) "Pages of Latvian Historical Slang Dictionary: 'dzeršana' ('drinking')" at the 21st Congress of the European Association for Lexicography (EURALEX) "Lexicography and Semantics", which took place from October 8 to 12 in the Croatian city of Cavtat.
The congress was organized by the Croatian Language Institute. The topic of S. Sviķe's presentation is is both unusual and engaging; it provides an insight into Professor Juris Baldunčiks' compiled and yet unpublished historical slang dictionary material on the thematic field of "drinking."
EURALEX congresses are held every two years in a different location. This year, 270 participants from various countries around the world gathered in Cavtat to present their research. Current research in lexicography focuses on the use of artificial intelligence tools and large language models in practical lexicography, special lexicography, terminology and resource development for the translation of various types of texts, and lexicography solutions for so-called small, lesser-studied, and endangered languages, among other topics.
