Linda Auziņa has been Elected as the New Chairperson of the Student Council

May 23, 2022

The Student Council of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences has been working in a new term since April this year. Until next spring, it will be chaired by the active and determined Linda Auziņa, who, as she says herself, thanks to fate and her interest in languages, came to Ventspils University of Applied Sciences to now lead the Student Council towards new achievements.

Tell us about yourself - which side are you from and how did you come to VUAS?

My name is Linda and I am from Ķekava. I came to VUAS quite by accident, but as I like to say - by the finger of fate. I wanted to connect my future with languages, so Ventspils was one of the places I put on my list of potential universities.

Which programme are you studying in and why this programme?

I am a 2nd year “Translation and Language Technology” student, because languages were my calling - not only because I wanted to work with foreign languages, but also because I wanted to improve my native language skills.

What are your hobbies?

To be honest, I don't have one particular hobby, because I spend my free time differently every time. I often find myself listening to loud music and just relaxing, but I am no stranger to reading or painting.

Why did you decide to get involved in the Student Council?

I decided to get involved in the Student Council after I was approached by the previous Chairperson Marta. She very successfully got me on track when I started working in the VUAS Constitutional Assembly, which later moved on to additional work in Student Councils in the external direction, and now I am here. :)

Congratulations on your new position as VUAS SC Chairperson. What are your and your council’s goals for this term?

My goals for this term are to become even more active and to finally bring back the sense of togetherness that everyone has missed so much - when else but now? Let's work so that the students enjoy it and get satisfaction from what we do.

What do you think will be the biggest challenges?

The biggest challenges will definitely be combining my studies with the Student Council and not worrying about small things, but if you really want to do something, then everything will work out, you just have to do it.

Is there anything you would like to wish others?

For others, I wish that the desire to get involved and to act never leaves you, and to definitely enjoy your studies to the fullest, and where better to do that than in the Student Council! :)

Dear colleagues and friends, Last Thursday marked a dark moment in the history of Europe and the world as we became witness of a brutal and unprovoked act of war by Russia against a sovereign nation in the centre of Europe - Ukraine. We are deeply saddened by this. We at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences stand with the people of Ukraine at this difficult time and join the international community in condemning on the strongest possible terms the act of illegal aggression. We are prepared to offer every possible support within our means to staff, researchers and students at your institution. We are open look into the possibility to host your staff shorter or longer for periods of time. Once again - we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and our thoughts are with all those directly or indirectly impacted by this invasion. Yours sincerely, Dr. Karlis Kreslins Rector of the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences Foto: Shutterstock
