The First Volleyball Competition Organised by the Student Council of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences

May 16, 2022

This spring, thanks to the  Ventspils University of Applied Sciences Student Council, student sports tournaments have resumed at  Ventspils University of Applied Sciences. At the beginning of the week, the first volleyball competition was successfully held at the Ventspils Olympic Centre.

Both students and graduates took part in the competition, competing for various tasty prizes and also wooden medals, which were prepared by VUAS electronics students using the laser cutter available at the university. The team that scored the fastest 25 points during the games was the team "Špīleri". The second best were students from the team "Match Point" and the third were representatives from the team "High Key Karlis". The fact that the students of
Ventspils University of Applied Sciences can attend volleyball training three times a week for free definitely helped the participants to prepare for the competition.

The main organiser of the event and the Sports Coordinator of the Student Council, Igors Šaters, says that he was very pleased with the positive feedback about the event and that his Student Council team was very helpful in organising it.

Dear colleagues and friends, Last Thursday marked a dark moment in the history of Europe and the world as we became witness of a brutal and unprovoked act of war by Russia against a sovereign nation in the centre of Europe - Ukraine. We are deeply saddened by this. We at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences stand with the people of Ukraine at this difficult time and join the international community in condemning on the strongest possible terms the act of illegal aggression. We are prepared to offer every possible support within our means to staff, researchers and students at your institution. We are open look into the possibility to host your staff shorter or longer for periods of time. Once again - we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and our thoughts are with all those directly or indirectly impacted by this invasion. Yours sincerely, Dr. Karlis Kreslins Rector of the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences Foto: Shutterstock
