Master’s Student in Translation Elīna Dergača Participates in the “Translating Europe 2025” Forum
On 5 November 2025, Elīna Dergača, a student of the Master’s programme “Translation and Terminology” at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, travelled to Brussels to participate in the “Translating Europe 2025” Forum, organised by the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) of the European Commission. The forum lasted three days and brought together 24 students from the European Master’s in Translation (EMT) network of master’s programmes in translation. This year, the forum was held for the twelfth time, bringing together representatives of the translation sector from across Europe. The event’s motto was “Quality Matters”.
Together with other EMT network students, Elīna had the opportunity to meet industry specialists in person, learn about current developments in the translation sector, become acquainted with the language and translation tools offered by DGT, and engage with translation and language professionals.
At the forum, all in-person attendees were formally presented with certificates of participation by Christos Ellinides, Director-General of DGT. In spring 2026, Elīna and the other forum participants from EMT programmes will take part in a special project of the Juvenes Translatores competition, in which master’s students will act as mentors to young translators during an online event. During these sessions, master’s students will share their translation experience and provide guidance to school students interested in translation and career opportunities in languages.
