Centre Operations:

The Centre aims to attract resources for VUAS research and project result commercialization, and for conducting research.


The main tasks of the Centre are, within its competence, to foster the development of science in the fields of technology transfer and innovation at VUAS by increasing the intellectual potential of Ventspils and Latvia, including:

• Development of new technologies to create innovative products and services, thus facilitating resource efficiency, technological transformation, and integration of businesses in value-chains at different levels;

• Development of digital skills to create and commercialize innovations;

• Finding innovative solutions to topical societal challenges to improve and strengthen public health, reduce inequality, provide access to quality food, clean and efficient energy, inclusive public services, and create a safe and quality living environment.

• Within the competence of the Centre, carrying out high-quality scientific activities, for example, expanding R&D capacity to increase business productivity and improve the efficiency of public administration processes to encourage balanced development of Latvian regions, as well as publishing results of the activities in internationally acclaimed academic journals and presenting them at international conferences.


Additionally, the Centre aims to actively participate in the state, regional and city economic policy-making, to serve as a resource base for the scientific work of young scientists, including doctoral and postdoctoral students, to improve the quality of their work and promote their integration into the international science arena, to participate in the development and implementation of projects, including cooperation with other branches of VUAS, as well as to organize conferences, seminars and other educational events, including cooperation with entrepreneurs.

Discussion papers

The results of the Centre’s researchers and the staff of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences have been published in the discussion reports of the Scientific Institute of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences “Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Regional Development”. The discussion reports focus on a wide variety of topics related to fundamental and applied research on entrepreneurship, innovations, and regional development. The reports published in these discussions are not copyrighted and are free to publish in other publications.
