Year 2021 – Interview with Lāsma Lubāne

Dec 17, 2021

The end of the year is often associated with a time of reflection as we look back at what the year was like, what we have experienced, what we would like to take with us into the new year, or on the contrary, – what we would like to leave behind and how we should move forward. Our experienced student Lāsma Lubāne, former chairperson of the Student Council and an Erasmus+ mobility participant, shared with us her thoughts about 2021. Continue reading to learn about how unique and varied it has been!

“As the end of the year approaches, I always like to look back at everything that has been achieved throughout the year, and I can certainly say that this year has been one of the most eventful years of my life.

Back in January, while participating in the Student Council, I would have never thought that the path would lead me to the Czech Republic. Thanks to the Erasmus+ programme, I have already been living here for three months, and I have met students from all around the world. I have celebrated Thanksgiving with Americans, learned Spanish from the Spaniards, and made Nepalese-style dumplings.

This year I will spend Christmas and New Years’ Eve together with my new friends. We are planning to make various dishes to give the celebrations a bit of an international flavour. I will definitely try to make the most delicious bacon buns to introduce others to what we usually eat in Latvia during the holidays.

For me, Erasmus+ is not just about studies abroad – I have also travelled outside of the Czech Republic, tried new sports, even continued participating in the Student Council, which, thanks to the active new members and Marta who has been a great chairperson, is doing amazing work!

2021 taught me to try to do more, not be afraid of new things, and to face challenges, since, I think, we grow the most once we step out of our comfort zone.

This year I have had the time to study, actively participate in the Student Council, work, do an internship and take part in the Erasmus+ mobility. And definitely, there is room for even more activities, and it seems that the last study semester will be even more fun.

I wish everyone to challenge themselves in 2022 and achieve something that so far has been only a dream!”
