Cryogenic Insulation Thermal Conductivity Testing System

PROJECT

Cryogenic Insulation Thermal Conductivity Testing System

Full Name of the Project: Cryogenic Insulation Thermal Conductivity Testing System

Project No.: 1.2.1.1/18/A/006

Project Acronym: Kriosiltmēr (KIS)

Funded by:

Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VUAS) Institute of Engineering Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre (IE VIRAC) in cooperation with Cryogenic and Vacuum Systems and Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry, from November 1, 2019, implements the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) project’s No. 1.2.1.1/18/A/006 Study No. 2.8 ‘Cryogenic Insulation Thermal Conductivity Testing System’

The Aim of the Project: The aim of this project is to create a universal system for more accurate acquisition of measurement results, which would allow connection between several different sensors and transmitters, synchronization of measurements, conversion of high-precision measurement results into digital format, transmission of measurement results via transmission lines and communication networks, accumulation and storage after the execution time in connection with the performed experiments, as well as to provide indication and visualization of the measurement process.

The following main activities are planned during project:

  • Develop a universal system for measuring thermal conductivity at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Create a prototype of measuring equipment for cryogenic insulation testing.
  • Publish research results in scientific journals.

The knowledge gained during the project will increase the research potential in the field of specialised tests and measurements in the space industry, cryogenic industry, chemical industry, that will allow the development and production of new modern types of cryogenic insulation.

Within the framework of the project, a budget data recorder with an integrated temperature measurement system for the Latvian electronics industry will be created.

Research Project Costs (for all partners): EUR 260673.18, including EUR 143201.79 European Regional Development Fund co-funding.

Research Project Costs for VUAS: EUR 98027.9, including EUR 46046.94 European Regional Development Fund co-funding.

The lead partner of the project is Cryogenic and Vacuum Systems; partners: VUAS and Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry.
