On July 25, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Republic of Latvia, Tang Songgen with his accompanying delegation visited Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VUAS). The Ambassador met with representatives of the University and graduates of Chinese language courses, as well as became acquainted with the VUAS premises, study programs, and other relevant information. The discussions also centered around potential future collaborations.
Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia, has been offering Chinese language and culture courses for several years. These courses have garnered significant interest among students and clients of the Lifelong Learning Centre. The university offers two levels of Chinese language courses each year. The first level is designed for beginners with no prior knowledge, while the second level caters to students who have completed the first level.
The Ambassador was deeply impressed by the proficiency of the individuals in their knowledge of Chinese. Particularly noteworthy was a twelve-year-old Ukrainian girl who had been studying Chinese for only a year but already demonstrated a very good knowledge of the language and interest in Chinese culture.
Chinese language courses are implemented as part of a contract with the University of Latvia Confucius Institute and is provided free of charge to both students and anyone who is interested in learning. The university will be forming new groups in the upcoming autumn semester, and all interested individuals will have the opportunity to apply.
