Assistant Professor of the FoTS publishes his monograph
The international academic publishing house Peter Lang has published an English-language monograph by linguist, Dr. philol. Jānis Veckrācis Linguistic and Translatological Aspects of Poetry Translation. Aspects of Poetic Aspects of Poetry by Joseph Brodsky's Texts in Russian, English and Latvian. The monograph is based on his doctoral thesis defended in 2017, which since than has been substantially elaborated.
The monograph provides both a broad and a fairly deep insight into the theory and practice of poetry (re)translation. It is also a contribution to the continuing research into the legacy of the outstanding poet, essayist and translator, Nobel Laureate Joseph Brodsky (1940-1996).
Brodsky's works continue to arouse the interest of readers and scholars worldwide. However, most of these studies focus on aspects of the literary science perspective.
In Latvia, there have not been many linguistic and translatological studies not only on Brodsky's works but also on poetry translation in general. Internationally, the study is, among other things, a rather unique contribution to the theoretical and practical aspects of Latvian poetry translation for foreign readers and scholars.
