Beach Volleyball Competition Organised by the Student Council

Jun 09, 2022

On the sunny June 5th this year, the Student Council organised a two-versus-two beach volleyball competition, where in two categories - male and female - students enthusiastically competed for prizes.

For the women, the first place went to the team "Duo", the second place went to "nemo sobrius" and the third place went to the team "Free Ballin'". In the men's category there was a fierce battle for first place. The match went into a third set, but in the end the first place went to the team "Amateurs", the second place went to the team "Strong serves and even stronger balls", but the third place went to the team "Grobiņa". All the participants said that they really enjoyed the competition and that they all managed to get tanned in the sun. The prizes for the first places were provided by the sponsor "Diānas sveces", but the prizes for the other places were provided by the Student Council.

Igors Šaters, the main organiser, referee and sports coordinator of the Student Council, says that what made him the most happy about this event was the people's response and willingness to play, the sponsors' great support for this kind of event, as well as the great weather conditions.

Dear colleagues and friends, Last Thursday marked a dark moment in the history of Europe and the world as we became witness of a brutal and unprovoked act of war by Russia against a sovereign nation in the centre of Europe - Ukraine. We are deeply saddened by this. We at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences stand with the people of Ukraine at this difficult time and join the international community in condemning on the strongest possible terms the act of illegal aggression. We are prepared to offer every possible support within our means to staff, researchers and students at your institution. We are open look into the possibility to host your staff shorter or longer for periods of time. Once again - we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and our thoughts are with all those directly or indirectly impacted by this invasion. Yours sincerely, Dr. Karlis Kreslins Rector of the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences Foto: Shutterstock
