International student event "Ice breaker"

May 25, 2023

In the second weekend of May this year, both international and local students of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VUAS) gathered to "break the ice" and get to know Ventspils better during a two-day event. The main organiser of the event was Maeva Fresneau, a VUAS Erasmus+ trainee who came to the university from France in 2022. Her Erasmus+ mobility experience in Ventspils inspired her to return to help the study department with various projects. This time, an event for international students to help them better integrate into the university’s environment was created - "Ice breaker".

On Friday afternoon, students gathered in the VUAS lounge to get to know each other and kick off the two-day event, where they competed for various prizes provided by the partners. During the event, the students had the opportunity to explore Ventspils, bake pizzas, try out  the break-out room and networking. The event ended on Saturday afternoon with a picnic and various sports games in the VUAS garden.

Event was created thanks to the partners - Salt Cave, Hot Spot, Vizium Science Centre and the International House of Writers and Translators.

Dear colleagues and friends, Last Thursday marked a dark moment in the history of Europe and the world as we became witness of a brutal and unprovoked act of war by Russia against a sovereign nation in the centre of Europe - Ukraine. We are deeply saddened by this. We at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences stand with the people of Ukraine at this difficult time and join the international community in condemning on the strongest possible terms the act of illegal aggression. We are prepared to offer every possible support within our means to staff, researchers and students at your institution. We are open look into the possibility to host your staff shorter or longer for periods of time. Once again - we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and our thoughts are with all those directly or indirectly impacted by this invasion. Yours sincerely, Dr. Karlis Kreslins Rector of the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences Foto: Shutterstock
