The 2022/2023 academic year at the centre for young natural science researchers has ended successfully
On Wednesday 24 May, the Centre for Young Natural Science Researchers concluded the 2022/2023 school year with an exciting and educational excursion to the Irbene Radio Telescope Complex.
Throughout the 2022/2023 school year, the Young Natural Science Researchers' Centre offered a great opportunity for students in grades 8 to 12 to learn for free about various science and technology-related topics and to meet experienced and inspiring experts in their field.
The Young Natural Scientists' Centre's annual programme included a total of thirty sessions on a variety of exciting topics related to science, technology, electronics, mathematics, logical thinking and programming, as well as the opportunity to take part in field trips to the Baldone Observatory, Ventspils House of Creativity, Irbene Radio Telescope Complex and the VIZIUM Science Centre's exhibition hall.
Classes were held every Wednesday at the VIZIUM Science Centre, with the only exceptions being study trips. Each session of the Young Natural Scientists' Centre focused on a specific topic and was led by experienced scientists, leading researchers from Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, as well as invited guest speakers and experts. The theoretical and practical sessions provided a valuable knowledge base and were useful for young people interested in science, technology, electronics, mathematics, logical thinking and programming. Interested participants were invited to register and take part in all the sessions, and could register only for the sessions they were interested in. The most interesting was the session on Satellite Technologies, which was led by Jānis Šate, an electronics engineer from Ventspils University of Applied Sciences. In this lesson, students learned how many satellites are in Earth's orbit, why satellites are needed at all, how a satellite can be built, and together with the teacher they planned the concept of building a satellite.
At the end of the session, certificates were sent to the participants.
The activity is implemented within the framework of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014 - 2021 Programme "Research and Education" Activity "Innovation Centres" Project "Establishment of Innovation Centre in Ventspils", identification number: NFI/IC/VIAA/2020/1, contract with the State Education Development Agency on project implementation No.: 9.-20.2.2.1/2.
