On February 22nd and 23rd, the international scientific conference “Endzelīns. Language. Time”, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Jānis Endzelīns, took place, where Jānis Veckrācis, Associate Professor and senior researcher at the Faculty of Translation Studies at VUAS, presented a paper titled “Linguistic Landscape in Latvian Botany Textbooks (1880–1940): Stable and Changing Features”.
This year, the conference took place in a special atmosphere, as it coincided with the 150th anniversary of the outstanding linguist Jānis Endzelīns (1873–1961), celebrated on February 22. The contribution and significance of Endzelīns at the European level has been confirmed by the fact that his birthday is included in the UNESCO calendar of days to be celebrated.

This January, the Associate Professor also participated in the international conference of Daugavpils University “XXXIII Scientific Readings” with a paper “Language Facts in the Periodicals “Darbs” and “Baltijas Zemkopis (1875–1876)”.
Both papers were prepared as a part of the Latvian Council of Science project No. lzp-2020/1-0179 “Smart Complex of Information Systems of Specialized Biology Lexis for the Research and Preservation of Linguistic Diversity”.
Also, at the beginning of February, Jānis Veckrācis participated in the international conference “Language and Literature in the Context of Education”, organized by the Faculty of Education, Psychology, and Art of the University of Latvia, where he presented the paper “Teaching and Studying Translation: A Double-edged Approach”.
